Today is Karvachauth and I realized this yesterday.. thanks to an email from a friend asking when is Karvachauth this year. Dusshera came and went by. Diwali is only 10 days away...
In US, Indian festivals just seem come and go past. Unless you are really involved with an Indian community which is hard for me, as I rarely go to temple and my husband is American. I really miss the festivals and all the exciting days leading up to the festival. The food, the decorations, the shopping, all was so much fun. And the lack of it makes me sad.
Yes there is Thanksgiving, yes there is Christmas but nothing compares to Holi and Diwali now, right ?

I know the feeling hon...
I used to feel the same way, till i saw "wake up sid" last to last weekend. Then i decide to take the matter in my own hands :D
Am planning to do puja at home this year..decorate the house really well.. volunteering to help in diwali celeb at work :) Got emails on FB for uofr diwali, y dont u try attending that?
Hmm I have not seen "wake up sid" so I cannot relate to it :).
But taking matters in hand is easier said than done.. and so I really admire your enthusiasm :).
I think i need to see the movie first :)
Nice Blog! Maybe you should talk to your husband about this. I took my super-agnostic white boyfriend to Temple for Diwali celebrations. and today on X-mas he decided to go to sleep early so I wouldn't bug him to go to church. That just made me realize what a big sacrifice he made for me. So go ahead and talk, You just never know until you try.
